Results of the year 2009 and further courses of innovative activity of the Industrial Repub-lican Unitary Enterprise «Minsk Electrotechnical Plant named after V.I.Kozlov» (UP “METZ im. V. I. Kozlova”)

08 february 2010

Under the influence of external factors of world financial and economic crisis on the industry of the Republic of Belarus, the UP «METZ im. V. I. Kozlova», as well as all manufacturers of the electrical equipment in the CIS has met difficulties with production sale. However by the end of 2009 the following results have been achieved:

1. The volume of output of power oil and dry transformers for voltage class of up to 35 kV in thousands of kVА for the year 2009 is equal to similar volume of the year 2008.

2. The volume of investments for manufacture modernization has got 12 Mio of US Dollars.

3. The enterprise does not have debts to the state, investors and banks.

4. As to the power oil transformers, their warehouse stock in the January, 2010 was equal to the monthly production volume. As to the other kinds of production their yearly sales were equal to the production quantity.

5. Neither industrial, nor engineering personnel of the enterprise were reduced. Besides, the number of product developers has increased by 5-7 %. The well-known school of research and development of the Minsk Electrotechnical Plant is not simply kept but also operates effectively, as the young experts engaged for the last 5-6 years are at the top of engineering and test departments of the enterprise today.

6. In August, 2009 during consideration by the board of Chamber for Patent Disputes of “ROSPATENT” in Moscow the experts of UP «METZ im. V. I. Kozlova» have protected successfully the right of the enterprise to use the trade mark anywise in territory of the Russian Federation. Thereby a wrongful act against the Minsk Electrotechnical Plant from one of the Russian firms has been stopped. Almost all powermen in the territory of the CIS are acquainted with the well-known trade mark of UP «METZ im. V. I. Kozlova», and the legal protection of the mark is in force since 1963 while for 2013.

7. By virtue of the innovative projects introduced by the Plant and actions for modernization of “know-how” UP «METZ im. V. I. Kozlova» has been before and remains the largest world’s manufacturer of power distribution transformers with the capacity of up to 2500 kVA for voltage class up to 35 kV with annual output of 3.000 pcs. thereof.

It seems to be the most important result of activity of management and the enterprise personnel. We will remind that within 2009 were put into operation the 5th, in numerical order, line for production of laminations for the transformer cores and the 2nd line for transformer steel cutting – both by GEORG firm (Germany), two modernized lines for the power oil transformers assembly worked under demanded loading, whereby the transformers of the 2nd size can be assembled on both lines. The shop for production of paper-insulated wire and NOMEX insulation (firm “Dupont”) completely covered needs of the enterprise for the nomenclature of wires during the 2009, and new winding machines have allowed carrying out of actions for sophistication of the transformers design and development of new production types – such as power oil transformers with power of 2500 kVA.

Sheet processing complex (3 units of bending and 2 units of hole-punching equipment with CNC), four painting lines, new and modernized welding equipment and also equipment for production of live parts (bus-bars and wires), devices for marking of units and wires, special accessories and appliances, non-standard equipment of own manufacture, new tools – all this has ensured the required volume of panel and unitized transformer substations (UTS) manufacture in the “crisis” year 2009 at the level of 90 % in relation to 2008 – to one of the most successful year in the Plant’s history.

Modernization of premachining manufacture has enabled expanding and added new features to such Plant’s products as UTS with digital protection for industrial enterprises, oil-and-gas complex objects, for thermal, hydro and nuclear power stations. Whereby UP “МETZ im. V. I. Kozlova” is ready to produce low-voltage complete devices of OKKEN series for rated currents up to 6300 A under the license agreement with French company “Schneider Electric”.

During the year 2009 many things have been made for the Plant’s territory accomplishment, repair of buildings, manufacturing areas, and office spaces, improvement of working conditions for workers and employees. Representatives of many power production organizations and machineries, not only partners of the Plant in co-operation, but also rival companies, note substantial improvement for the last 3-4 years of externals and internal arrangement of the Minsk Electrotechnical Plant.

Of course not everything being planned for the year 2009, has been realized completely, but no one of the planned projects has been stopped. So in the 1st semester of 2010 modernization of manufacture of voltage transformers of small power with laminated magnetic structure will be completed. Herewith in 2009 the Plant was up and running at full capacity with manufacture of measuring current transformers for currents 1000, 1500 and 2000 A (accuracy rating 0,5 and 0,5 S) using new “RUFF” (Germany) winding machines.

The UP “МETZ im. V. I. Kozlova” warehouse complex is being improved and it will become a mechanized warehouse for power transformers. A new production building and a warehouse in the territory of the 2nd Plant site, on industrial base “Kolyaditchi”, should be built in 2011. But at the moment, design and exploration works, selection of technological and other equipment for new manufacture are being carried out.

Design works on organization of the 3rd assembly conveyor and building of a new test complex are completed. The final decision on realization of these projects will be made depending on development of the general economic situation with power complex of Russia and the CIS countries.

Since the Plant’s experts have got more interesting and adapted to the demands software product, purchase and application of the specialized CAD software is deferred from 2009 to 2010.

Being begun in 2009, modernization of the tool and machine shops will be finished in 2010. New sheet processing machines will be bought for pretreatment manufacture additionally.

Further information about realization by UP “METZ im. V. I. Kozlova” of a unique innovative project on reconstruction of welding fabrication of the power oil transformer tanks is worth a separate report.

There on the second Plant’s site, in the industrial base “Kolyaditchi”, has been up and running at full capacity in the 3rd quarter 2009 the first in the world robotized complex for welding of the corrugated tanks for transformers TMG of the 11th and 12th series of all capacities and variations. This complex is manufactured and erected by the Swedish representation of Japanese firm MOTOMAN. It makes in an automatic mode, according to the set program, with use of the automated manipulators by means of robot’s CNC full manufacturing – welding of the transformer corrugated tanks. The tanks made under the technology have excellent quality of oil tight seams executed without physical human part, moreover productivity of the site on welding of corrugated tanks has doubled.

In summary it would be desirable to notice that besides technological innovations, in 2010 heavy workload on R & D will be carried out. It means further development of samples and documentation for manufacture of the oil transformer with power 2500 kVA, putting in operation of the improved 11th series of ТМG transformers with power up to 630 kVA inclusively and for voltage 35 kV, designing and preparation of manufacture of the 12th series of TMG transformers with power 250 kVA and with reduced no-load and short circuit losses – up to the European standards, updating of power range of dry transformers with GEAFOL windings by “Siemens”, engineering and implementation of power range of stationary cabinets with one-sided service with vacuum switches, and also extension of model range of UTS in a reinforced concrete shell.

All the above said reflects the guidelines of the Plant’s innovative activity in 2009 and 2010. Life may edit the plans of Minsk Electrotechnical Plant named after V. I. Kozlov, but we believe that these amendments will be pleasant surprises for the enterprise staff.
